Q&A: Improving contest design

Today, our Senior Manager of Content & Promotions, Anne Marie Robson, answers another common question that we hear from clients looking for ways to boost online engagement.

My contests could use a facelift. What are some ways I could improve my designs in order to increase in participation?

Anne Marie: Great question!  I’ve got a few pointers that can help you whip any contest into shape! First, you’ll want to give your promotion an eye-catching title–something snappy that grabs your audience’s attention while clearly stating what type of prize is up for grabs. Another great way to attract entrants is to feature an image of your prize in the promotion’s header graphic. From cash to a free trip, include a photo to get your members excited about entering for their chance to win! Once you’ve got their attention, keep your contest copy brief. Clearly state the details of your prize within a short paragraph in order to hold your audience’s attention. At the bottom of the contest page, be sure to include a call-to-action button with an eye-catching design. The best way to accomplish this is to use colors that contrast the page’s background.
