Q&A: Driving site traffic during the summer months

Today, our Senior Manager of Content & Promotions, Anne Marie Robson, answers another common question that we hear from clients looking for ways to boost online engagement.

With summer coming up, I’m worried that my site traffic will drop as my listeners travel and go on vacations. How can I keep my audience engaging with online content during the summer season?

Anne Marie: Never fear! We’ve got plenty of hot content ideas and tips just for summer that will keep your audience coming back for more! To start your summer planning, check your calendar to see what holidays and events are coming up that you’d like to center your promotions around. From Independence Day to Labor Day, baseball season, summer music festivals, and even back-to-school shopping, there are a wide variety of seasonal themes to excite every listener persona.

Choose the holidays or local happenings that best fit with your brand and your audience demographic, and then partner with a business in your community to run sweepstakes giving away themed prizes or event tickets. For example, have a local sporting goods store or sports bar sponsor a weekly or monthly giveaway for free baseball tickets so your members can support the closest major or minor league team in your area. If event venues in your community are hosting some of the season’s hottest music acts, partner with them to give away concert tickets, VIP experiences, or even chances to meet the bands! For all those listeners who just want to escape on a relaxing summer vacation, drive them to your site by teaming up with a hotel or travel agency to offer a free getaway. Check out our Resource Library for a wide variety of pre-designed contest templates for these and a variety of other themes, or download one of our free guides, which are full of engaging campaign ideas for any time of year.

If you’d like to boost online engagement this season but have a limited prizing budget, you can still get your audience excited with summer-themed content such as trivia, surveys, and polls! You can also monetize these by selling a sponsored content package to a local advertiser.

There you have it! Go forth with some of these tips and ideas, and make this summer the hottest time for listeners to check out your online promotions!
